20 years ago (1989)

Repairs to a persistent crack in the bottom of the Brainerd YMCA pool have been completed and the facility will reopen Monday. The pool has been closed for 2-1/2 weeks to fix the crack - the fourth since the pool was built in 1964.

30 years ago (1979)

A corner captain at Brainerd International Raceway was killed Saturday when she was struck by a race car that skidded off the track. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene after the car crashed through a tire barrier and hit her.

40 years ago (1969)

A 13-year-old girl was critically injured when a tree crashed down on her tent and four women narrowly escaped death when their pontoon flipped over on the Mississippi as high winds and tornadoes ripped through central Minnesota.

60 years ago (1949)

Fifty-two two-man teams today started a 450-mile canoe race down the Mississippi to Minneapolis as part of the Aquatennial festivities.

80 years ago (1929)

The Brainerd Northern Pacific team took possession of first place in the Northwoods Baseball Association with a 5-3 win over Walker that featured clever pitching by Richmond. He also wielded the willow for two hits.

100 years ago (1909)

Felix Graham has rented the room in the Fitger Block formerly occupied by Citizens State Bank and is opening up a harness store. His son, James Graham, will be in charge of the business.
