Camp Knutson Quilt Auction will be Aug. 8

How would you like to receive a package of cut pieces of fabric, all different shapes, sizes and colors, and with these pieces design and create an original quilt? This is exactly what Jackie Viestenz did for her quilt for this year's Camp Knutson Quilt Auction.

In the February letter asking for quilt donations, Marie Fisher slipped in a notice that asked if anyone was interested in creating a quilt out of donated cut pieces. Jackie answered the call. Upon receiving the pieces Jackie created her design, and mailed those remaining back to Marie. Since then the pieces have traveled on to two more quilters. Jackie's quilt will be in this year's auction.

This quilt, created from pieces of fabric by Jackie Viestenz, N.Y., will be included in this year's Camp Knutson Quilt Auction.

The donated fabrics date back to the '60s and '70s. Jackie appliqued the pieces onto muslin in the shape of flowers. She has a beautiful applique stitch and has highlighted the squares with varied colors of bright sashing, which gives the quilt an old-fashioned look. Check the back of Jackie's quilt, as her embroidered label is as charming as the quilt. She titled her quilt "Grandmother's Garden."

Jackie lives in Port Henry, N.Y., and this is the second year that Jackie has donated to the auction. She heard about Camp Knutson from a friend in Minnesota and, as an avid quilter, felt that she too wanted to be a part of supporting the camp.

Check this quilt out and all of the others at the annual Camp Knutson Quilt Auction Aug. 8. Viewing of the quilts and the silent auction are from 10-11:30 a.m., with the auction starting at noon at Camp Knutson, 11169 Whitefish Ave., Crosslake.
