20 years ago (1984)

This year, after many years of a big parade and fireworks show in Brainerd, there was no community celebration. Independence Day celebrants enjoyed fireworks and parades by visiting area communities.

30 years ago (1974)

A 55-mile-an-hour wind that swept through the Brainerd area Saturday night toppled two towers, stranded fishermen on Mille Lacs Lake, and caused widespread minor damage to homes and businesses in the area.

40 years ago (1964)

Ray Madison was elected chairman of the Brainerd School Board at its organizational meeting.

60 years ago (1944)

Brainerd's two traditional rivals, the Lions and Rotarians, will resume their rabid softball series July 27, in a benefit game for the Trading Post, Brainerd's juvenile center.

80 years ago (1924)

After the lapse of a half century, Hans Wolley resident of Brainerd, 1870 - 1874 came to town to look up some of his cronies of the old days. Mr. Wolley said he was forced to admit that the town had changed a bit. The streetcars have ceased to run and many other things.

100 years ago (1904)

This is payday in Brainerd for the N.P. and M&I employees and there is the usual rejoicing.
