Several weeks ago Kinship Partners featured a couple of brothers who were very interested in being matched with adults from the community who had a bit of spare time to share their interests in fishing, hunting, woodworking, carving and even athletics if a partner was interested.
They are being featured once again. Maybe everyone was out of town the last time we ran the column about these boys, because much to our surprise we did not receive any calls to inquire about these young men.
Jake and Kevin are still waiting. They identified themselves in the article and called several times during the following week to check on who had called about being their partners. Surely there were people out there who wanted to hang out with a cool 13-year-old or his cool 11-year-old brother. They have always gotten along well with each other and have never had any problems in school.
They occasionally join the gang at Kinship Partners for an outing and they have never caused a problem and are always willing to help so there must be people who know about them and want to be their partners! There must be people in this ever growing community who have a couple of hours a week to spend with a young man who is tiring of computer games and yearns for adult companionship.
The staff at Kinship Partners is available to answer any questions you may have about the program. If you call to request information or call to ask a question you will not be expected to sign up for the program. That is a decision only a volunteer can make. However, if you are wondering just how much of a commitment you are expected to make or what you can honestly expect when you volunteer from the program, please call one of our Kinship Offices.
We are always happy to put you in contact with people who have been in the program and they can share first hand what being a partner is all about. If you have thought and thought about checking out the program, think about it no more and make the first call for more information. Brainerd Office (218) 829-4606, Crosby office (218) 546-7308 or Pequot Lakes office (218) 568-4015.
We would be pleased to answer any questions or provide any information you may need.
