Cimarron Printing recently announced a merger that is expected to mean an expansion for the Brainerd business.
Bruce Schulz, owner of Cimarron Printing, merged with Watt/Peterson Inc., owned by Dennis E. Watt and Dave Peterson. The three men are now the principal owners of Printing Partners of America, which will do business under the names Cimarron Printing-Brainerd, Cimarron Printing-Marshall and Watt/Peterson-Cimarron-Minneapolis.
The merger allowed the owners to merge their Minneapolis locations and expand in Brainerd and Marshall.
"The merger creates one of the largest and most comprehensive full-service commercial printers in the Midwest," the company announced in a news release, noting the long-term vision was to capitalize on the strengths of both companies. "... And to seek other companies with similar philosophies and goals to become the leading, locally based, all-inclusive Minnesota-owned printer."
Cimarron customers may continue to reach the company at its Fourth Street Northwest address.
Small businesses are the economic backbone of the lakes area and an area support system was recently listed among statewide accomplishments for the Minnesota Small Business Development Center.
The regional SBDC serving north central Minnesota is located at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. During 1999, the Brainerd center delivered 5,275 hours of counseling to 482 clients and offered 12 training seminars to 235 people. In a news release, the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development noted businesses helped by the Brainerd center assisted clients in getting $28.1 million in capital.
The state's small business program is 21 years old.
Small Business Center clients were asked to identify the top five business issues during the year to help plan for the future. The top issues statewide were marketing analysis and planning, business planning, securing adequate capital, financial analysis and new product introduction.
A citywide summer sidewalk sale is fast approaching. Participating businesses will be in downtown Brainerd, at the East Brainerd Mall and the Westgate Mall in Baxter July 20-22.
Pro Paint Supply Inc. is a new business now open on College Road in the Baxter Industrial Park. Owners are Ron and Wendy Opheim.
The law firm of O'Neill and Murphy announced the formal opening of its Nisswa offices on County Road 18. The firm, which is engaged in general law and civil litigation in Minnesota and the Midwest, has offices at the World Trade Center in St. Paul.
