Staples man dies in collision near Cushing

CUSHING - A 23-year-old Staples man is dead following a two-vehicle head-on collision about 1:45 a.m. Saturday on Highway 10, about four miles north of Cushing, the State Patrol reported.

Mitchell R. Koppes was driving northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 10 when he collided head-on with a vehicle driven by James M. Allen, 39, Sartell.

Koppes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen suffered severe injuries and was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where Sunday he was reported in critical condition.

A passenger in Allen's vehicle, Ann Busby, 35, Motley, suffered lacerations, bumps and bruises and was treated at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls.

The State Patrol also investigated a single-vehicle fatal crash at 11:37 a.m. Sunday on Highway 47 north of Isle.

The vehicle involved had two occupants and was southbound on Highway 47 when it went off the roadway and ran into the trees.

The names of the people involved in the crash were expected to be released by the State Patrol Monday.
