MERRIFIELD -- James F. Weigel, 65, of Merrifield, Minn., died July 13, 2003, at home in Merrifield. He was born Sept. 9, 1937, in St. Paul, Minn. Chief financial officer of St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth from 1974-1988; Hospital Financial Management Association Chapter president from 1981-1982; the 1980 William G. Follmer and 1985 Robert H. Reeves Merit Award for Outstanding Service in Chapter Activities of HFMA; 24 years of perfect attendance in Rotary; past president of Skyline Rotary Club (Hermantown), 1978-1979; Joint Airport Zoning Board in Hermantown; Hermantown Planning and Zoning Commission, 1979-1988; Finance Officer for the City of Baxter from March 1994 to June 2003; established the Baxter Economic Development Authority; active in the Municipal Clerks and Financial Officers Association; and enjoyed membership in the North Countrymen singing group.
Survived by wife of 41 years, Margaret; and beloved daughters, Theresa Kelly, Janet Canton, Kristin Weigel, Susan Weigel, son-in-law Dennis Kelly; and cherished grandsons, Garrett Canton and Dennis and Henry Kelly; sisters and brothers-in-law, Thomas and Marguerite Baker and Thomas and Helen Flynn; nieces, Leslie Baker and Meghan, Erin and Kerry Flynn; nephew Dean Baker.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at St. Christopher's Church in Nisswa, Minn., with Father George Zeck officiating. Visitation at the church Tuesday 4-8 p.m. with 7 p.m. prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Rotary Foundation or St. Joseph's Medical Center (Brainerd) Hospice.
