Say, I'm reading Sunday's Vox Pop "Oh deer." I'm reading this and I just cannot believe anyone would write this. "Does anyone shoot deer for meat which is not good for you?" Of course it's good for you. It's lean meat. And not everyone just sits around feeding them. Sometimes we hunt just for fun. Maybe just to go out to sit in the woods and it doesn't even matter if you shoot a deer.
Who's stuck in past?
Regarding the issue of Mary Koep not in favor of Kevin Stunek being appointed fire chief due to being stuck in the past, look in the mirror, Mary. You are the one stuck. We all would like you to be replaced with a "fresh" city council member. Congratulations, Kevin. You are the best candidate for the job!
Reflecting on the parade
I have to comment about that Vox Pop in Thursday's paper. First of all, the out-of-control kids. I agree and it's also a shame when they come with huge bags for collecting candy or when parents run out to get candy for like a 3- and 4-year-old child and the other thing is about "kick out the peace coalition." That's absolutely correct. That was certainly inappropriate for somebody to march when it was a celebration for freedom. How many people sacrificed their lives so those idiots could be in the parade?
Remember what they fought for
The caller who wants the peace marchers banned from the Independence Day parade seems to forget that one of the basic freedoms our soldiers fight for is the right to express our views in a public forum. The marchers are just saying they are looking for peaceful solutions to international problems. Our soldiers go to war to regain the peace taken from us by tyrants and terrorists. The desired objective is peace, freedom, ultimately.
Congratulations to Stunek
Thank you former Mayor Cumberland for your correct input concerning the recent appointment of the Brainerd Fire Department naming Kevin Stunek as the new fire chief. The people of Brainerd can be very secure in knowing we have the best ever fire department. Always there for us in case of emergency. Congratulations, Kevin. We wish you the best. Continue on as fire chief. We're behind the entire department.
McQuiston not a new hire
Regarding the new hiring of the chief of police, Corky McQuiston. I can understand the city paying him, not at full salary, for the first year. However he is not a new hire he is a within grade promotion. I don't think they have the right to reduce his health benefits. If you look at it as a new hire, possibly, but he is not a new hire. I think this needs to be rethought if this is the person they want to hire.
