With parking lots filed and participants streaming onto the grounds of Forestview Middle School, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event marked its 10th anniversary Saturday.
After the 5K runners left the starting line, the 5K and 1K walkers filled the entry street to Forestview Middle School Saturday at the 10th annual Brainerd Lakes Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. This year 2365 people participated in the event.

With 165 volunteers helping keep the activities on schedule, the event quickly unfolded in the early Saturday morning sun. As the survivors gathered at the bleachers for the 10th annual photo, many of the women just knew where to sit and when to cheer. As soon as the picture was taken, the doves were released and honorary chair Al Lindner was counting down the seconds to the beginning of the 5K running race.
For the past 10 years, breast cancer survivors have gathered for a group photo before the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

After the runners swept past the announcing platform, the walkers in the 5K and 1K filled in the gap and began their trek.

As the runners and walkers neared the finish line, honorary survivor chair Mary Lindner was shouting encouragement to the finishers in the running race and the walking events.
Walker Sandy Gilmer wore a halo while participating in the 5K Walk at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Saturday at Forestview Middle School. Known as one of the River Angels, Gilmer was planning a float down the Crow Wing River after the event with a friend.

Another year has passed but breast cancer survivors and their families have connected with others who are affected by the disease. Some tears were shed and hugs given to friends that are drawn together once a year at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
