WHITE BEAR LAKE -- Marni Lundbohm of Pine Meadows in Baxter won the second flight of the open division in the Minnesota Women's State Match Play Championship Thursday at White Bear Yacht Club.
Lundbohm defeated Ellie Layton of Midland Hills Golf Club 2 up.
Hilary Homeyer of Braemer defeated Claudia Pilot of Austin 3 and 2 to win the championship flight. Pilot was medalist with a 68. Liz Olson of Oak Glen beat Nancy Harris of Minneapolis 2 and 1 for the senior division championship flight title.
Heslop finishes 13th in junior classic
NISSWA -- Jackie Heslop of Pequot Lakes finished 13th in the final round of the Compaq Junior Classic at the Pines at Grand View Lodge Thursday.
Heslop shot 92 Thursday to finish with a three-round total of 259.
Amy Schmucker of Cold Spring won the girls' division with a 16-over-par 232 total. She shot rounds of 77-79-76.
David Schultz of Fargo, N.D., earned the first American Junior Golf Association title of his career by carding a final-round 69 to bring his tournament score to 1-under-par 215.
Zack Miller of San Rafael, Calif., the tournament's leader after the first two rounds, finished fifth after carding a 9-over-par 81 in the final round.
Brainerd VFW team sweeps Menahga
The Brainerd sophomore VFW baseball team swept Menahga Wednesday at Adamson Field.
In the first game Brainerd won 11-1 in five innings with Chad Weiss pitching a one-hitter, striking out five and walking five. Brainerd had 13 hits with Chris Klabo finishing 3-for-4 and Chad Weiss, Aaron Jenkins, Tony Parrish and Fred Weiss all collecting two hits.
In the second game Brainerd won 4-3 in a five-inning contest. David Berndgen pitched a complete game to pick up the win. Klabo, Jason Sather and Zach Docktor all had two hits for Brainerd.
Legion doubleheader rescheduled
Thursday's American Legion baseball doubleheader between Brainerd and Little Falls was postponed Thursday due to a lack of players.
The game has been rescheduled 6 p.m. July 19 at Little Falls.
