20 years ago (1981)

The yard of Mr. and Mrs. Russell LaCourse located at 709 North Fourth Street, has been chosen as July "Yard of the Month," by the Brainerd Garden Club.

30 years ago (1971)

Standing-room only crowd was on hand for the First National Bank's Centennial Memory Modes costume contest. A total of 29 contestants participated in the contest. Mrs. Nordica Thabes won the first place award in the Women's division.

40 years ago (1961)

Fifty to sixty foreign students may visit the Brainerd area during the first week in September. The students are all graduates and are all winners of Fulbright Scholarships.

60 years ago (1941)

Crow Wing County's 184 21-year-old men who registered under the Selective Service Act July 1, 1941, will know in what order they are to be called into the Army after Thursday evening's lottery in Washington, D.C.

80 years ago (1921)

Thirty-one residents of West Brainerd have appealed to the Water & Light Board for water service to their section of the city and the board has transmitted the petition to the City Council for action.

100 years ago (1901)

"Do you think the position assumed by your friend is correct?" said one lawyer.

"I don't know," answered the other absentmindedly. "He is one of the best golf players in our club, and while he may look a little awkward some times I wouldn't undertake to criticize him."
