Decisions on letters to editor questioned

Posted: Tuesday, July 12, 2005

I really don't know what priorities are used in selecting the letters that appear in the Open Forum. A few months ago I wrote a letter about how ABC Evening News covered the "Operation Hawk" story. The government reported federal and local law enforcement officers working together had taken 100,000 criminals off America's streets. Sounds like a great job to me. Congratulations. However, ABC news thought talking about the "timing" was as important as the story itself. Come on, give as a break.

Last month I wrote a letter about the hope Jesus gives in these hard times. I was encouraging, not preaching. Neither letter made it in the "Forum." But, on Independence Day, the day we celebrate this awesome nation's birthday, founded by God-fearing and respecting men, the Dispatch thought it appropriate to publish a letter about "oral contraception" and the constitutional right of birth control. Am I missing something here? This must be why I'm not a Dispatch subscriber.
