Charles Hoffman

DONNA, Texas -- Charles Hoffman, 82, Donna, Texas, formerly of Aitkin, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas.

He was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Brayton, Iowa, to Robert Hoffman and Caroline Christensen Hansen. They moved to Aitkin County. He graduated from Aitkin High School in 1936. He was a dairy farmer and worked in the Civilian Conservation Camps. He married Florence Cartie on April 21, 1939, in Aitkin. He worked with the local 4-H groups and the FFA. He worked for Zontelli Brothers in the Crosby mines and then worked in Grand Rapids and for Reserve Mining Co., in Babbit. He later worked in Pakistan as a heavy equipment mechanic, retiring in 1974 and moving back to Aitkin. His first wife, Florence, died in 1994. He married Verna "Rusty" Keisling in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Hoffman, Minneapolis, and Steven "Butch" Hoffman, Libertyville, Ill.; one daughter, Kerry Jo Hoffman, Aitkin; two stepdaughters, Nancy Keisling and Judy Pomeroy, Aitkin; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Gray, Aitkin; four stepsisters, Carol Jackson, Boca Raton, Fla., Betty Beck, Fenton, Mich., Elsie Specht, Aitkin, and Karen Waselchalk, Isle of Palm, S.C.; and two stepbrothers, Fritz Hansen, Upper Peninsula, Mich., and Jim Hansen, Aitkin.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin with Pastor Ruth Gangloff officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Friends may call an hour before services Saturday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
