The Brainerd School Board continued its search for space for a growing school population. Since May 16, when it received an advisory board recommendation for a $25.4 million building and renovation plan, it has looked for less expensive options.

An obviously reluctant city council voted 6-1 to pay former police officer Randall Bush $4,900 in back to pay in order to secure his resignation. He had been charged with four counts of assaulting prisoners, but was acquitted in a trial on the first charge.

The Nisswa village hall was packed at a special council meeting to discuss the recent weekend of violence which occurred here. Among those attending were Sheriff Chuck Warnberg, Andy Engemansen of State Patrol and George Montgomery of Donnybrooke.
60 years ago (1949)
John Risendal on Sunday afternoon tied the nine-year-old Brainerd golf course record with a 31, four under par. He had five birdies, three pars and a bogey in tieing Wally Engebretson's score from 1940.
80 years ago (1929)
The new, smaller currency was in heavy demand today as the government issued it in denominations of $1, $5, $10 and $20. B. L. Lagerquist, cashier at First National Bank, said the new bills were being rationed as the supply will be limited for some time.
100 years ago (1909)
The home of John Hagan at Long Lake is under quarantine for diphtheria. The family is particularly unfortunate in this regard as they were quarantined for six weeks last spring for scarlet fever.
