Open Forum: What's been going on at city hall?
People are talking. Some say they have seen a group of people taking pictures out of the building. Others are saying that a group of suspicious looking people were seen in the building wandering around and pounding on walls. Here are the facts:

Open Forum: Recall Pawlenty for his arrogance
We have seen the arrogance, which our governor displayed with the political gamesmanship he displayed when he got the legislature to pass a balanced budget which he managed to avoid doing any part of. He played the leader of the opposition party in the legislature without being part of the legislature great gamesmanship but not good for the state. I would like to see a recall petition at every county fair this fall to reward him for his arrogance.

Our opinion: Arenas
The Brainerd City Council seems bound and determined to get out of the business of managing Brainerd Area Civic Center arenas. We hope the council is correct in its estimation that the Brainerd Amateur Hockey Association has the resources to do a better job managing the arena than the city is currently doing.

Vox Pop
While I would like to see the school district look into the performance of some of their math teachers, recent discussion from some focusing blame on teachers for the poorer performance of 11th-graders on the standard math test recently isn't entirely fair. There are some excellent math teachers in the Brainerd district. I would focus on curriculum. Every one of my kids has had the math program used to teach them change multiple times during their years in school here. Each time, teachers have told me that change has made things difficult on the kids.

Our opinion: YMCA-Schools
The long-talked-about concept of a shared parking lot for the Brainerd Family YMCA and the Brainerd School District is just too good of an idea to pass up. Supporters of the idea will seek approval from the Brainerd City Council at its July 20 meeting and from the Brainerd School Board at Monday's meeting.
