Round two of Soap Box Derby

The second Brainerd Lakes Downhill Drags Soap Box Derby race will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at the Brainerd Area Civic Center.

Any child wishing to race one of the loaner cars may call the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department at 828-2320 before noon on Thursday.

New racers must be at the Civic Center race track at 8:30 a.m. and take two practice runs off the starting gate. All racers must be 7 years or older.

The registration fee to race is $5.

S-M, W-DC to play for state titles

The Minnesota Girls Youth Basketball Champions from each region will gather Sunday at The College of St. Benedict to play for the state championship in each grade level.

In fifth grade Willmar will play Staples-Motley at 8:30 a.m.; Moorhead will play Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 9:20 a.m.; Stewartville will play Osakis at 10:10 a.m. and Cloquet will play Sleepy Eye at 11 a.m.

In sixth grade Brooklyn Center will play Paynesville at 8:30 a.m.; Cook will play Wadena-Deer Creek at 9:20 a.m.; Crookston will play Wabaso at 10:10 a.m. and Caledonia will play Sauk Centre at 11 a.m.

Weightlifting competition set

The 14th annual Nisswa Crazy Days weightlifting competition is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 11 in the American Legion Parking lot in Nisswa.

Participant weigh-ins will be at 10 a.m. with the competition starting at noon.
