No guilt, just work harder now
No loss this week but I am actually happy considering the Fourth of July week and my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. I tried to follow special event and holiday eating advice, and did stay away from some of the extra calories. But, as you can tell, there were just so many wonderful fattening foods to have during the Fourth of July celebration I just had a bit too much. Side note: I only had two pieces of corn at the Jaycees Free corn feed, even though the corn was fabulous.

On most days, I can pick up the paper, read the Open Forum, agree or disagree with the writers and get on with my day, but Thursday's letter about religion and government simply demanded a reply. Using broad, untrue generalizations ("Religionsare more concerned with power than anything else" is a prime example) the author argued for more separation between religion and government.

Our president is asking auto manufacturers to come up with vehicles of increased gas mileage (up to 40 MPG). The process will likely include fat subsidies to accomplish this.
VOX POP
I am certainly glad the mayor and his wife were treated like royalty on their visit to Leksand, Sweden, on $4,000 of the taxpayers' money. With the high cost of gasoline and the increased cost of groceries we will consider ourselves lucky to be able to take a $300 trip to the North Shore. Maybe the taxpayers would like to help us out too - $300 is a mere pittance compared to $4,000.
