The Baxter Tradition Mortgage 10-under traveling baseball team won the Detroit Lakes tournament June 28.
Baxter defeated Vergas 8-2, the Detroit Lakes Dodgers 14-0 and Detroit Lakes Twins 12-3.
Cam Swanson, Zach Cadwell and Chris Sausen each had five hits for Baxter.
Matt Pikula, Cadwell, Cole Hundstad and Chris Pohlkamp combined to pitch a no-hit shutout. Mitch McLain and Swanson were winning pitchers.
Baxter (8-1) plays in the state tournament in St. Cloud and Waite Park this weekend.
Baxter Eagles play in Paynesville tourney
The Baxter Eagles 15-under traveling baseball team finished fourth at the Paynesville tournament June 28-29.
Baxter beat Orono 7-6 and Cottage Grove 12-2. The Eagles lost to Paynesville 8-1, Farmington 13-7 and Waite Park 11-0.
Shane Dutton led Baxter with a .625 on-base percentage, followed by Richie Deleon at .571 and Bryce Szymanski and Shane Bertram at .533.
Bertram pitched an eight-inning complete game against Orono.
Baxter (3-6) plays in a tournament this weekend.
Nisswa Legion loses four games
The Nisswa American Legion baseball team dropped four recent games.
Ironton beat Nisswa 3-2 on Thursday with Dan Gauerke the losing pitcher. On Tuesday, Nisswa lost 13-8 to Ironton despite a three-run triple by Derek Nathe.
On July 1, Pierz beat Nisswa 7-5. Royalton defeated Nisswa 3-0 on June 29.
