I think it's time to go back to the drawing board on the College Drive improvements. The unemployed and underemployed folks in the local area can't afford the cost. Trying to promote the area and its low wage rates to prospective employers will do little to increase per capita income. Crow Wing County is a state leader in that area too. Local leaders need to learn to live within their means just like the local residents are.
Isn't it typical of a Vox Pop contributor to slam the teachers regarding the 11th grade math scores instead of noting that in general Brainerd students scored the highest of any area school on most tests measured in this latest round of testing. This, with all the increased class sizes, and the fact that they implemented a new math curriculum in Brainerd this year. Way to go all Brainerd teachers and students. You did an excellent job.
After doing a lot of people-watching on the Fourth, I wonder how many in this county are making their living off of welfare. I heard numerous people complaining their welfare check wasn't big enough. One of 'em is about 22 and had six kids. We know the unemployment rate is way too high. What is the welfare rate?
