20 years ago (1989)

Mayor Bob Olson has exercised one of his mayoral privileges and vetoed a pay raise for department heads and supervisors, which the city council had approved earlier in the week. The total amount involved was $15,518.

30 years ago (1979)

Jim Perry, former Minnesota Twin pitcher, shot an actual 72 here to beat out 40 celebrities in the annual Camp Confidence Celebrity Golf tournament. The top team was led by former Twin, Bob Allison.

40 years ago (1969)

Brainerd school teachers and the school board agreed to hold three more salary negotiation sessions after a full afternoon of discussion. Judge Warren Saetre had traveled here to hold a hearing to show cause, which was put on hold.

60 years ago (1949)

A Brainerd man was in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital after his left arm was torn off in an automobile accident on Highway 18 east of Brainerd. He was traveling into Brainerd when he was side-swiped by an east-bound car.

80 years ago (1929)

A fine acquisition to the lakes area is Sherwood Forest Lodge, located between Margaret and Gull Lakes. It officially opens tomorrow. It features 10 guest cabins and a 100-foot by 52-foot main lodge made from logs cut in the Teton National Forest.

100 years ago (1909)

After a vexatious delay the motor car ordered by J. C. Barber for use at Twin Oaks has arrived. It is a solid tire machine of 20 horse power and is capable of speeds up to 25 miles per hour. It has been specially adapted to carry nine passengers.
