Gull Point quiet on the Fourth

Posted: Thursday, July 09, 2009

EAST GULL LAKE - The Cass County Sheriff's Department effort to curb trespassing and underage consumption along Gull Point on Gull Lake during the Fourth of July proved a success, Chief Deputy Tom Burch said in a news release.

The sheriff's department had deputies stationed on land and in the water in an effort to curb trespassing onto the point, which is private property. Boats were still allowed to anchor off the point.

Burch said law enforcement officers from Cass County, Crow Wing County and the DNR worked collaboratively to reduce underage drinking and parking problems that have existed in previous years. Burch said that few citations were issued and no water-related incidents were reported.

Burch credited law enforcement collaboration, the city of East Gull Lake's assistance and participation in the public safety initiative and community members support for the successful weekend.
