ROCHESTER - Usually six runs is enough to win in the Northwoods League, but not for the Blue Thunder Saturday as they were defeated 17-6 by the Rochester Honkers.
Blue Thunder starting pitcher Jason Banks was shelled by the Honkers, giving up 11 earned runs on seven hits and five walks in just 2 2-3 innings.
Eric Anderson pitched 4 1-3 solid innings of no-run relief for Brainerd before Alex Guttosch came on in the eighth inning and gave up five runs on five hits.
Center fielder Drew Hoisington went 3-for-6 with four runs and five RBIs and catcher Derek Norris was 2-5 with six RBIs. Both players homered for Rochester.
Xavier Scruggs finished 1-3 with a two-run triple in the ninth inning. Ben Orloff and Andy Dirks each went 2-4. Orloff singled and drove in a run in the fourth. Adam Symons hit a solo home run in the second for Brainerd.
