JULY 9 - 60 years ago (1947) - At least 85 percent of the Brainerd area residents must submit to a free chest x-ray testing in the fall months of this year if the dreaded disease, tuberculosis, is to be curbed and the X-ray finding successful.

ROCHESTER - Usually six runs is enough to win in the Northwoods League, but not for the Blue Thunder Saturday as they were defeated 17-6 by the Rochester Honkers.

Fort Ripley advances, beats Harding, Brainerd
FORT RIPLEY - Walt Woosley had a no-hitter going through 7 2-3 innings before Rod Boser connected with a two-out single to break up the no-hit bid but the Fort Ripley Rebels still beat Harding 4-0 Sunday in the winner's bracket of the North Division in Victory League baseball playoffs.

Softball Home Run Derby
Keith Bartholomous of Bada Bing's team Buzz Kill hit six homers in the first round of the Home Run Derby during the 28th Annual Brainerd Men's Invitational softball tournament Saturday at Memorial Park in Brainerd.
