The final stages of construction have been started on the Highway 371 interchange bridge south of Brainerd.
The interchange, an overpass across Highway 371, will replace the current four-way stoplight at the Highway and Business Highway 371 intersection. With the interchange, traffic traveling north to or south from Baxter and points north will be able to go through the intersection without stopping.
Work began April 9 on the $4.7 million interchange that Minnesota Department of Transportation officials hope will make driving between Little Falls and Baxter a little easier.
With a bridge constructed over Highway 371, Business Highway 371 motorists who want to go north or south onto Highway 371 will take a nonstop loop to exit onto Highway 371.
The only stops on the interchange will be on top of the overpass, for people exiting Highway 371 to Business Highway 371.
Weather permitting, the interchange should be completed by Oct. 15.
