Brainerd sweeps Sartell

Blaine Bubalo and Mike Smith pitched the Brainerd VFW team to a 14-2, 11-0 sweep of Sartell Tuesday.

Bubalo pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, four walks, while striking out six.

He and Mitch Bzdok went 2-for-5 at the plate. Jake Luke was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs, Bruce London went 2-4 with two RBIs and Kevin Peterson finished 2-2 and was hit by two pitches.

Smith fanned six in four innings as he allowed just one hit.

Dan Rhoda went 2-2 with a triple, three runs and an RBI. Jack Hegarty finished 2-3 with a double and Adam Gunderman hit an RBI single.

Brainerd improves to 16-5 and hosts St. Cloud 11 a.m. Thursday.

Brainerd splits with Monticello

Kevin Peterson pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out 10, walking three and allowing two hits in an 8-0 Brainerd VFW victory over Monticello Monday.

Monticello came back to win Game Two 6-5.

Jake Hegarty went 4-for-5 with two RBI and Blaine Bubalo was 3-5 with two RBIs in the opening win. Chris Sausen added an RBI with a 3-4 performance.

Sausen picked up the loss in game two, but not with out a fight. He went 2-3 with two doubles and three RBIs at the plate, but allowed eight hits and four earned runs in five innings. He struck out four.
