Viking Coca-Cola showed their hundreds of boosters one of the greatest rallies of all time in Brainerd scoring 15 runs in the fourth inning of their second meeting with rugged Jungle Cage of Duluth, winning the Brainerd Women's Slow Pitch Championship, 20-18.
40 years ago (1969)
Brainerd's city council was asked to ignore the state law requiring fluoridation of its water by Jan. 1, 1970. Winston Borden spoke for an overflow crowd at council chambers saying that the law was unconstitutional.
60 years ago (1949)
Warnings directed at airplane pilots today by Sheriff Roy Wicklund followed a number of reports of low-flying planes near farms scaring livestock and poultry. In a recent incident several hundred turkeys died when they piled up after a plane buzzed them.
80 years ago (1929)
Roscoe Fawcett of Interlachen Club won the 10,000 Lakes Golf Championship at Breezy Point, defeating Henry Howe of Minneapolis 4 and 3 in the finals. In the semi-finals Fawcett beat veteran D.N. Tallman on the last hole.
100 years ago (1909)
A horse team, whose owner's name could not be learned, took a lively runaway down Laurel Street and demolished the fire hydrant in front of the Coates Liquor Store. He had been watering them at the haymarket trough when they became frightened.
