SANFORD, Fla. -- After weeks of searching and a nationwide plea for clues, investigators found the body of the missing son of basketball star Julius ''Dr. J'' Erving less than a mile from his home.
An autopsy Friday confirmed 19-year-old Cory Erving's identity, but the cause of death will not be determined for a few weeks, Sheriff Don Eslinger said.
Investigators said no foul play was suspected and that Erving, who was known to drive fast, may have died in an accident.
Erving family members said they were grateful to know what happened to the teen-ager, who had been missing for 40 days before searchers with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office found his car and body late Thursday at the bottom of a murky retention pond.
