BURNSVILLE (AP) -- Tires Plus, the largest tire retailer in the Upper Midwest, plans to merge with Morgan Tire and Auto of Clearwater, Fla., to become the nation's second-biggest independent tire and auto parts chain.
Tires Plus co-founders Tom Gegax and Don Gullett told their 1,600 employees about the plans Thursday.
Price and terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The combined company will have $725 million in revenue and more than 540 stores in 24 states.
The merger should be complete in about 30 days.
