WALKER -- Cass County will hold the annual county surplus equipment auction Aug. 28 this year at Walker.
Among items to be sold will be 18 cars and two pickups having mileage from 73,000 to 159,000. They include models from 1992 to 1999.
There also will be several desks, file cabinets and some additional vehicles.
Cass County Board Tuesday adopted a county-wide policy to permit Environmental Services Department to install fences around recycling bins where needed on the condition property owners where the bins are located agree to sign a multi-year contract to continue to permit the bins to remain on their property.
The issue arose, because people have been leaving garbage, televisions and other non-recyclables by the recycle bins at Ace Hardware in Walker. Also, cardboard has been blowing onto neighboring business properties there.
ESD must present quotes to the board before each fence can be installed.
County Engineer David Enblom obtained board approval to vacate excess highway right-of-way at Cass County State Aid Highway 32 and 85th Avenue Southwest to facilitate a land exchange with a private property owner so Becker Township can obtain land to build a new town hall.
The board authorized Hubbard County to begin condemnation for property to complete a joint road improvement on Cass CSAH 37 and Hubbard CSAH 26.
Cass townships within Chippewa National Forest will receive $88,246 and the county $205,912 in federal payments in lieu of taxes for 2004.
Minnesota DNR will provide $8,409 to Cass County this year for off-highway vehicle enforcement. Minnesota Department of Human Services will grant Cass Human Services $4,550 for equipment and staff training for an interview room.
