After working for twenty-five years as a chemical dependency counselor for Crow Wing County Social Services and dealing with thousands of individuals and families there is no way I can individually thank all those who have impacted my life. The balancing act of working with the courts, probation, child protection, families, treatment centers, detox units and individuals at times could be viewed as an Olympic event.
I would like to thank the over 300 people who attended my retirement party at the Red Roof Inn on April 24. I was overwhelmed at the amount of people who came.
Very special thanks to my wife and coworkers, the planners and participants who did an excellent job at entertaining and mocking me. I enjoyed it. I loved hearing the stories and the effect my work has had on them.
Thanks to all who sent cards, made phone calls and spoke to me about my work and future. Thanks to the alcoholics and addicts I have worked with over the years who needed for me to keep my job and gave me so much happiness when those who were hurting, confused, lonely, bewildered and lost because of addictions and were transformed to happy, caring, fulfilled and productive sons, fathers, mothers, daughters, uncles, aunts, siblings and yes, grandparents whose families also received healing.
A special thanks to Margaret and Joann at the Red Roof Inn and all the work you put in organizing, preparing the food, set-up, decorations, and clean-up.
Thank you to the community of recovering alcoholics and addicts for the support and encouragement you have given me.
My work continues,
Ron Brusven, Mn.L.A.D.C.
