My congratulations to the Miss Brainerd Lakes scholarship program for another wonderful pageant. However, I would like to know how Brainerd lakes can be represented by someone who doesn't go to school here, doesn't work here, didn't grow up here and doesn't have connections to our community? I think the way it works was her parents have a house on Gull Lake. That may meet pageant rules but if this community is going to support a pageant, they expect it to be truly representative. I won't be buying your raffle tickets or going to your program anymore.
Editor's note: Pageant officials said the competition is run by the rules set forth by the Miss America organization. The current Miss Brainerd, Elizabeth Neaton, lives at home with her parents on Gull Lake when she's not attending St. Cloud State University, officials said. The Brainerd Dispatch will publish a guest column on this topic in Friday's paper.
I agree with the person who wrote in about the Lum Park beach being a blight. They should name it Scum Park. It's a beautiful park. Why can't they get together with the DNR like Baxter which has everything and make that beach swimmable for everybody?
It is not the citizens of Center and Lake Edward townships that need educating on the sanitary sewer district. It is our county board that needs educating. We've already voted no. What part of no don't you understand?
I used to be able to drive to the north side of Black Hoof Lake near Ironton, pull off to the side of the road and fish. But I see some people had the idea to block off the road. Don't say I could still access it by boat because I can't get in and out of one. All they accomplished with their road block here is to keep the handicapped out of the Mineland Recreation Area. A lot of thought must have gone into this.
I've enjoyed the recent comments about the non-escapable mental health facility and Forestview School. How do taxpayers get council members to listen? All we hear is that "It's progress." That's a mindless excuse. The city planners seem to go from city to city destroying towns. They create jobs to pad their own pockets. There's a plan for a mega elementary school. Get real. We can't afford the one we have. Can a mega school save money? Can a small mental health facility really save money? I think the council planners have created problems and there are hard feelings.
Who's editing the paper?
I'd like to know who's doing the editing of the paper especially for the comics? For the past week and a half, several different days you guys have ran the exact same comics. What's going on with that? Is anybody editing paper or are you just throwing the comics in just for the hell of it?
(Editor's note: The Dispatch apologizes for the errors. They haven't been quite THAT bad but we know they gave fits to crossword puzzle loyalists. We were puzzled, too, as they weren't made in the newsroom but we regret them just the same.)
