Aitkin wins its first game of season

Harding tops Brainerd

AITKIN -- The Aitkin Barnstormers prevented a winless season by beating the Cuyuna Range Miners 10-2 in Victory League amateur baseball Saturday.

Matt Finlayson was 2-for-3, Jacob Mehr was 4-5 and Dusty Finlayson and Travis Leiviska each were 2-5 for Aitkin.

Jim Leiviska pitched a complete game victory striking out seven while walking just one.

Cuyuna's James Freeze struck out six and walked two in the loss. Lance Herbst and Jason Grittner were each 3-4.

Sobieski 10, St. Mathias 4

SOBIESKI -- Jake Francis was 3-for-5, Joey Tautges was 2-5 with a home run and Chris Klabo was 2-4, but the S. Mathias Devils fell to Sobieski 10-4 Saturday.

Chad Weiss picked up the loss as the Devils finished third in the West Division.

Sobieski knocked out four home runs with Joe Thoma collecting two.

Pierz Bulldogs 15, Flensburg 11

PIERZ -- It was a good day to be a Herman as Paul and Pete Herman both went 4-for-5 and Chad Herman was 4-4 with five RBI to lead the Pierz Bulldogs to a 15-11 decision over Flensburg Saturday.

The victory puts Pierz at 7-7 for the regular season.

Paul Herman also picked up the win as he pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Avon 10, Fort Ripley 3

AVON -- Jason Sather of the Fort Ripley Rebels was 4-for-5 and Ray Austin was 2-4 with a two run home run in a 10-3 loss to Avon Saturday.

Brandon Owen picked up the loss pitching 5 2/3 innings.

Friday's game

Harding 3, Brainerd 0

HARDING -- The Harding Dinosaurs Class C amateur baseball teams' 3-0 victory over the Brainerd Braves Friday sealed its North Division Victory League regular season championship.

Dan Rocheleau was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Gary Woltolla scored two runs for Harding. No other information was provided.

Both teams finished with 11-2 records, but Harding defeated Brainerd twice.

Harding -- 3

Overall -- Brd 11-2, H 11-2.

Postponement

The Pierz Brewers Saturday game with Royalton was postponed until 1:30 p.m. Monday in Pierz.
