CROSBY -- Andrew Adam Filla, age 86 of Crosby, died on Sunday, July 3, 2004 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. He was born Feb. 2, 1918 in LaPorte, Minn., to Paul and Julia (Nowaczeski) Filla. He married Loretta Anna Johnsen on June 19, 1947 in Bemidji. He was a retired Pittsburgh Pacific Employee with 38 years of service. He was a WWII veteran serving as a tank operator with the 707 tank battalion, 28th infantry campaigns of northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. He was a member of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post 557 of Deerwood and the DAV. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Cuyuna Range Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Harambasic of Sauk Rapids, Vicki Pohl of Anchorage, Alaska, Kathy and Carl Melling of Melrose; one brother and sister-in-law, Roman and Lois Filla of Little Fork, Minn.; two sisters, Catherine Swanberg of Cass Lake and Fronie Nelson of Crosby; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, John, Albert, Aloyzie, Christ, Joe and Teofil Filla; and two sisters, Julia Traverse and Victoria Filla.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby with Fr. Howard Eisel officiating. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby with full military rites given by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post 557, Deerwood. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m.
