Brainerd to host another USSSA tourney

Brainerd will maintain its reputation as summer tournament headquarters when it plays host to the second in a series of four state youth events this weekend.

The United States Specialty Sports Association and National Baseball Congress "Hap" Dumont 14 and under baseball tournament is scheduled Friday through Sunday at Mills, Adamson and Central Lakes College fields.

Two Brainerd teams will participate -- the Brainerd Warriors, coached by Bruce Ericson, and the Brainerd Lakers, coached by Greg Roberts.

Twelve other teams are scheduled to participate in the event, which features 29 games.

Pool A teams include Woodbury, Armstrong and Prior Lake.

Pool B teams are Shoreview, West St. Paul and the Warriors.

In Pool C are Coon Rapids, Champlin, North Branch and the Lakers.

Pool D teams are the Twin Cities Titans, Minnesota Storm, Andover and the Vadnais Heights Northern Lights.

Each team will play three games Friday and Saturday. Games Sunday will be between the top two teams in each pool. The third-place game is 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Adamson and the championship 6 p.m. Sunday at Mills.

The Warriors will play Prior Lake 10 a.m. Friday, West St. Paul 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Shoreview 4 p.m. Saturday, all at Mills Field.

The Lakers are scheduled to play 2 p.m. Friday against North Branch at Adamson, Coon Rapids 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mills and Champlin 6 p.m. Saturday at Adamson.
