Brainerd Legion team improves to 6-5

The Brainerd American Legion baseball team improved its record to 6-5 with a 6-1 win over Staples at Adamson Field June 29.

Adam Hardy pitched a complete game for Brainerd. He struck out six, walked four and gave up six hits. Dan Kirkpatrick was 3-for-5 to lead Brainerd at the plate. The second game was rained out.

Brainerd played a doubleheader against Little Falls June 28, winning the first game 6-5 and losing the second 5-1.

Matt Means pitched a complete game in the opener, giving up nine hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Joey Tautges was 3-for-3 and Means 2-for-2 to lead Brainerd, which scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win.

In the second game, Tim Siekas was 3-for-5 for Brainerd. Losing pitcher Nick Weiland struck out two, walked two and gave up seven hits.

Chris Bell went 2-for-2 for Little Falls with three runs scored in the second game. Winning pitcher Josh Burgardt went seven innings and spaced eight hits to get the win.

Brainerd is idle this week. It resumes action July 12 at Little Falls with a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
