The Brainerd Storm Junior Olympic 14 & under girls' slow-pitch softball team won the Elk River ASA/USA Minnesota Sports Federation JO Slow-pitch Festival June 16-17 at Elk River.
In day one pool play, the Storm beat Burnsville 17-5 and the St. Paul Wildcats 14-5.
On day two, the Storm defeated the Baseburners 24-1, Coon Rapids 16-0 and Edina 13-1.
Members of the Storm are: Kelsey Anderson, Sierra Sibbert, Samantha Dockter, Liz Tadych, Stacy Lingwall, Lauren Kirkpatrick, Hilary Smith, Liz Ellens, Trista Kassulker, Laura Bernu, Alison LeBlanc, Katelin Manlick. Coach is Mark Tadych.
The Storm's next tournament is July 23-24 at Sioux Falls, S.D., where they will be the defending champions.
Warriors traveling team third in tourney
The Brainerd Warriors 14 and over traveling baseball team finished third in the Paul Molitor tournament in St. Paul June 23-24.
The Warriors beat Apple Valley 5-4, Brooklyn Park 12-0, Woodbury 4-3 and lost to Orono 5-4 in a time-shortened game.
Against Brooklyn Park, Tom Andrew pitched a one-walk, no-hit complete game.
Cumulative hitting highlights for Brainerd: Jay Rakowski, 5-for-7, .714; Mike Germain, 8-13, .615; Tyler Hassel, 5-9, .555; and Kyle Holbrook, 5-11, .454.
Coaches are Bruce and Kevin Ericson. Brainerd's record is 5-4. Its next tournament is this weekend in the USSSA/NBC "Hap" Dumont tournament in Brainerd.
Baseball showcase event July 30
The Baseball Factory, the leading college placement service for high school players, is conducting a one-day showcase event for high school players in the Minneapolis region who aspire to play college baseball.
The full-day camp is scheduled July 30 at the Metrodome.
The event will draw college coaches from throughout the area, as well as pro scouts who evaluate high school talent.
