ST. CLOUD (AP) -- A new memorial was dedicated on Independence Day to honor veterans, firefighters and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty to protect others' freedoms.
The memorial, ''Falls of Our Fallen,'' features a waterfall spilling over 220 tons of locally quarried granite.
Wendy Klinefelter and her daughter, Katelyn, turned on the waterfall at the end of the dedication ceremonies. Klinefelter's husband, Brian, was shot and killed by a robbery suspect on Jan. 29, 1996, while on duty with the St. Joseph Police Department.
''You never want people to forget,'' Wendy Klinefelter said.
The waterfall, located south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and Minnesota Highway 23 in St. Cloud, is adjacent to an American Heritage Bank branch office that opened last fall. The bank sponsored the waterfall project.
