Thunderstorms will continue to dump rain on parts of eastern Texas on Wednesday, as the front they are a part of begins drifting off the Gulf and Atlantic coasts.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to ease up over most of the deep South and Southeast, but are expected to continue in Florida.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop along a cold front pushing through the Midwest and central Plains, bringing periods of wet weather to areas from Kansas to New York.
A cold front is expected to trigger strong to severe storms over the Great Lakes into the Ohio and mid-Mississippi Valley.
In the West, temperatures could climb to dangerous levels Wednesday afternoon.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 119 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
