ONAMIA - The members of the Onamia Lions Club know what it's like to be sent to war. And they also know the tremendous burden it can place on their families. That's why the members of the Onamia Lions Club have partnered with Camp Onomia to give Minnesota military families something they may have thought they would never receive - a summer vacation.
Ninety-four military family members will attend Camp Onomia's Military Family Weekend on Wednesday through Sunday at Camp Onomia, located outside of Onamia.
The weekend retreat will offer a wide variety of opportunities for rest and renewal. Children's programs will be led by Camp Onomia's staff of summer counselors. Children will have the opportunity to play and learn along with others who share their experience of having a parent in the service. There also will be a wide variety of programs available for adults, including Bible studies, canoe trips and massages.
The retreat is offered free to Minnesota military families courtesy of the Onamia Lions Club, Camp Onomia and donations from local churches and individuals.
Camp Onomia is an outdoor ministry of Lutheran congregations.
