20 years ago (1990)

30 years ago (1980)

Brainerd bicyclists had better think twice before offering friends a ride on a bicycle built for one. That, and many other unsafe bicycling habits will come under scrutiny by the new bicycle safety officers, Gene Weiss, 21, and Lynn Murton, 18, starting next week.

40 years ago (1970)

John and Jeff Thompson were the winners of the annual Soap Box Derby yesterday for the third year in succession. As a result, they can keep the trophy, which has circulated for 12 years. The derby runner-up was Terry Shanks.

60 years ago (1950)

Nisswa baseball players in the Crow Wing Valley League lowered the boom on Daggett Brook with a walloping 40-5 decision in this year's record scoring decision. Thirty-five Nisswa hits and 15 Daggett Brook errors accounted for the high scoring game.

80 years ago (1930)

A.P. Cardle, Brainerd, is the world's best red peony grower and is the world's second best pink peony grower. Competing in the professional class as Brainerd Nursery, Cardle triumphed over both U.S. and Canadian growers in the National Flower Show at Duluth.

100 years ago (1910)

The J.M. Hayes one-story building at 305 S. 6th Street caught fire at 12:30 this afternoon. The fire department made one of its best runs ever made and the water pressure was exceptionally good. By the watch the fire was controlled in three minutes.
