Box hits walk-off homer against Staples-Motley

PEQUOT LAKES - Jacob Box hit a walk-off, two-run home run Thursday in the seventh inning as the Crosslake-Fifty Lakes-Pequot Lakes Legion team defeated Staples-Motley 2-1.

The starting pitchers for each team tossed complete games in a pitcher's duel with C-FL-PL hurler Tom LaRue picking up the win striking out four while scattering eight hits and a run.

Staples-Motley pitcher Jordan Riewer kept the opposition in check before letting up the winning home run, fanning seven while allowing eight hits and the two runs.

Riewer, Chad Beebe and Joe Roline each collected two hits apiece for S-M.

Ben Kepner finished 3-for-3 in the win with Charlie Hollinbeck and Jake Serfling each contributing doubles.

Aitkin takes pair from McGregor

AITKIN - The Aitkin Legion team took both games of a high-scoring doubleheader against McGregor Thursday.

In the first game, Andrew Welshons and Brian Collins each slammed solo home runs to pace the Aitkin offense in a 9-4 victory.

Welshons ended the game 3-for-3 while Kyle Hoffman pounded three doubles to finish 3-4 while adding two RBIs.

Hoffman also tossed a complete game to earn the win striking out eight while allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Aitkin won another high scoring game in the nightcap, 14-9, as Collin Burke, Dan Landrus and Welshons all collected two hits.

Burke picked up the win the mound pitching three innings in the five inning win.
