Jack Hegarty struck out 12 batters and went 2-for-3 with a double as the Brainerd sophomore team beat Sauk Rapids 4-1 in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday.
In seven innings Hegarty allowed three hits and one earned run and no walks. Mike Smith was also 2-3 for Brainerd.
Sauk Rapids won the first game 7-4. Brainerd's Mitch Bzdok was 3-4 with a double and Tyler Lenz was 2-4 with a double and RBI.
Blaine Bubalo took the loss. In seven innings he gave up seven hits and five earned runs, struck out four and walked two.
Brainerd, Cold Spring split
Kevin Peterson, Pat Skogen, Bubalo, Lenz and Jack Luke all had two hits as Brainerd won the first game 7-4 in eight innings Wednesday.
Hegarty got the win. He pitched two innings, allowing one hit and an earned run and struck out two. Peterson pitched six innings, yielding five hits and three earned runs with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Cold Spring won the second game 6-5. Cole Jensen was 2-3 with an RBI and Peterson 2-2 with a double.
Mike Smith was the losing pitcher. In five innings he allowed five hits and only one earned run, struck out three and walked two.
