WALKER -- Cass County will submit a warranty claim for the air conditioning system at the Health and Human Services building.
Administrator Robert Yochum reported to the county board Tuesday the mechanical system for the addition's air conditioning and air handling system failed first.
When the system for the original portion of that building was used to try to cool both sections, it overloaded and also failed, he said.
Yochum told the board $35,000 has been retained from the contractor on the building addition construction project and will be held until the problem is solved.
He also reported he has been trying to negotiate a lease renewal with the state for a building the Family Safety Network uses at Ah-Gwah-Ching. The state wanted to charge about triple last year's rate. Yochum said he is attempting to obtain the same rate as last year.
County Assessor Steve Kuha reported the state accepted Cass' property valuations this year without requiring any changes. Other Minnesota counties were required to increase their estimates or re-evaluate properties to improve equity.
Cass will apply for a grant to be used to buy defibrillators for ambulance services operating in the county.
Collin Frazier will leave his position as diversion worker to accept the newly created third Cass County probation officer position.
Frazier reported of the 425 juvenile offenders who completed the diversion program during the last six and a half years, 77 percent have not re-offended. Of the 151 juvenile offenders referred to the program who were subsequently referred to court for prosecution, 87 percent did re-offend.
After several attempts to buy land from the county, Northern Mississippi Range Association will lease land instead for a gun range south of Cass Lake.
Wilkinson Township has decided against joining the gun club in a joint land purchase, said Commissioner Virgil Foster.
The Hackensack American Legion donated $500 to the county veterans transportation program.
