DNR warns of fire danger for holiday

Posted: Wednesday, July 03, 2002

While the fire danger has been low for a while, there is the potential it could increase during the remainder of this week, said Mark Mortensen, DNR program forester.

The last measurable rainfall occurred June 24 and with the light, sandy soils found in the Brainerd area, the lack of rain has resulted in the loss of moisture from the top 5 inches of the topsoil. Plants also are losing moisture.
