Rep. Steve Sviggum, R-Kenyon, won't be everyone's cup of tea when it's time for him to be confirmed by lawmakers as state commissioner of labor and industry, but his breadth of experience and genial personality should make him a shoo-in choice.
Open Forum
It is time for all government employees (including school districts) to go to work in private industry for a year and find out that when revenues don't meet expenses you cut expenses. It is called "restructuring." And don't start by saying that the most important aspects of education will be "cut."
