ZIMMERMAN (AP) -- A Livonia Township man remained in critical condition after being shot while charging at a Sherburne County officer with a knife, authorities said.
Sgt. Steve Doran, a 10-year veteran, was on routine leave after shooting Jeremy Schugg once in the abdomen Saturday morning at a residence just southwest of here.
Schugg, 25, was trying to kill himself with a knife and had injured one person who had struggled with him, said Sheriff Bruce Anderson.
A deputy went to the front door as Doran went to a patio door on the back, lower level of the house. Anderson said that Schugg, who appeared to have stabbed himself, opened the patio door and charged Doran, who shot him.
Schugg was treated for gunshot and stab wounds at the hospital in Princeton. He was then taken by helicopter to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he remained Sunday.
