BYLINE3: BARROWS -- It was a night of firsts for Travis Wermter and Erick Thiesse as they collected their first feature wins Saturday night at North Central Motor Speedway.
Polesitter Travis Wermter broke away from the field early as Donnie Jensen and Dan Schroeder fought for second in the Wissota Street Stock feature.
The battle for third brought out the caution on lap seven, giving Schroeder and Dave Mass a chance at the lead. Several cautions late in the race made for a green, white, checkered finish as Wermter, Schroeder, and Dave Mass went three wide in turn four with Wermter inching his way into victory lane. Mass finished second with Schroeder in third.
The Wissota Super Stock feature was a game of survival as two cautions made for a single-file start with polesitter Erick Thiesse pacing the field. With five laps complete and five cautions, Thiesse worked the low groove to maintain the lead over Dave Mass, Ed Jensen, and Luke Hines.
Mass made a move around Thiesse on lap nine, but lost the top spot as a lap was not completed before the caution came out, giving the lead back to Thiesse.
Time expired, making for a green, white, checkered finish on the restart as Thiesse and Mass went door to door with Thiesse taking the win by inches over Mass. Ed Jensen, Butch Brutcher and Luke Hines rounded out the top five.
John Thompson was the early leader in the Wissota Midwest Modified feature, but experienced some trouble on lap five as he was sent to the back of the field.
Pete Hines became the new leader on the restart as Troy Jordan and George Sniezek battled for second. Late race cautions shortened the feature as Jordan seized his opportunity on lap 12 to take the lead from Hines and collect his first clean sweep. Hines was second with George Mattson in third.
Polesitter Chad Jillson led the first half of the Pure Stock A feature but lost the lead on lap five as he spun around in turn four, putting him out of action. Kevin Baron picked up the lead and the win as Mark Olson placed second. Brian Johnson grabbed third.
The Pure Stock B feature was the quickest feature of the night as they went green to checkered in five minutes. Jesse Lodermeier led flag to flag to take the win as Russ Mulholland won the battle for second over Bill Jones.
Next weekend is the midseason championships as qualifying races will be lined up according to points and feature events straight from the heats.
