The Brainerd VFW baseball team lost two close games to Princeton Monday, 10-9 in 11 innings and 2-4.

Brady Prince went 5-for-7 with a double, a triple and two RBI while Grant Eller, Anthony Hennen and Mike Germain each added three hits. Germain had a home run and three RBI.

In the second game, Eller and Travis Miller combined on the mound to keep the game close while getting hits from Tom Andrew and Jesse Keller.

Brainerd's record is 10-3.

Brainerd basketball team wins title

The Brainerd seventh-grade girls' basketball team defeated Crosby-Ironton 32-20 to win the championship of the Crsoby-Ironton Fastbreak Girls Basketball League Sunday, June 29.

The Brainerd eighth-grade girls' team fell to Pierz in the title game 27-22.

Thiesse fifth at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Former Brainerd resident Nate Thiesse finished fifth in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series Saturday at Mesa Marin Raceway.

Thiesse in his Chevy also earned the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie of the Year Award. This is the second consecutive race in the series that he has been the top-finishing rookie.

Snyder, Lease finish 4th

SAUK CENTRE -- Trent Snyder, Ironton, and Cory Lease, Pierz, finished fourth in their class features Saturday night at I-94 Raceway.

Snyder nabbed his fourth in the ASA late model and Lease finished fourth in the Great North Legends feature.

D.J. Dondelinger, Wadena, finished fifth in the Super Stocks feature. He placed second in his heat race.

Snyder finished third in his fast dash and Lease finished second in his heat race.

Karate Examination held

The Central Minnesota Karate hosted a rank examination in St. Cloud June 26.
