Superbike champion Jimmy Moore, 35, Eugene, Ore., was injured Thursday when his motorcycle left the Brainerd International Raceway road course.
Scott Quick, BIR general manager, said Moore left the road at a high rate of speed. Quick confirmed Moore was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd and then transferred to a hospital in the Twin Cities.
Cycle News, a weekly motorcycle newspaper, reported Moore, who races for Corona Extra EBSCO Media Suzuki's, suffered a partial compound fracture of his left arm and a ruptured spleen in the crash, which was reported to be a wind-induced front end washout in the first turn. Moore will miss a scheduled trip to race in Japan in August.
Cycle News reported Tim Saunders, Corona Extra EBSCO Media Suzuki's, said a gust of wind took out the front end of Moore's bike and the racer traveled an estimated 230 yards before hitting a tree.
