20 years ago (1983)

Dave Schubert cultivates potatoes on his farm the old-fashioned way. Schubert raises Percheron horses and uses them to handle some of his farm work.

30 years ago (1973)

Thousands lined the streets in downtown Brainerd to watch the Independence Day Parade and then migrated to Gregory Park to take part in the games and contests. Over 100 units took part in the two-hour parade.

40 years ago (1963)

Ginny Simms invites you to a real old-fashioned 4th of July at Breezy Point. Games for the kids. Dance to the Jimmy Dorsey Band. All absolutely free.

60 years ago (1943)

Mogenson's Shores will be the scene of a large group picnic to be held Sunday, July 4. A Kittenball game between Brainerd and Long Lake will begin at 2:30 p.m.

80 years ago (1923)

"Does your sister go to school, too?" I asked a little girl as she passed my yard. "No, she replied, "she is waiting to get enough-olds so she can think lessons."

100 years ago (1903)

Attorney A.D. Polk and Henry I. Cohen returned this noon from Pelican Lake where they had been fishing. They refused to tell any stories of their skill, but pointed with pride to a large box filled with black bass -- perhaps.
